Scope of Work

Whilst ensuring minimal impact to local businesses, the community (tourists and residents) and commuters, QMC Group completed construction of 650 metres of bi-directional cycleway alongside Hyde Park on King Street, Sydney between George Street and Philip Street. The reinstated cycleway was previously a very important city centre bike link with 2000+ bike trips per day.

This involved working amongst public transport, retail and hospitality trade deliveries and constant other vehicular and pedestrian traffic. As a consequence, QMC planned for works to be completed in multiple return stages at day and nights. The accepted Construction Traffic Management Plan placed significant restrictions on working hours and noisy work activities. There was naturally, significant interest from other stakeholders including Transport for NSW, Transport Management Centre, the City to Surf, Ausgrid & Jemena.

Specific works completed included demolition of existing rigid road pavements and gutters in heavily congested service areas under the supervision of Ausgrid spotters, excavation and construction of stone kerb footings and placement of stone kerbs, construction of concrete gutters, median islands, footpaths, reinstatement of rigid road pavements and line marking works for both roadway & cycleway. There was also mill and re-sheeting works and significant upgrades to five signal sites to incorporate of cycleway phasing.
