Scope of Work

QMC was engaged by DP World to renew 20 high mast light towers located within its Botany Bay terminal. The works necessitated removal of the existing lighting towers, repairs to the existing concrete plinths followed by assembly and painting of the new poles.

Works were effectively coordinated with client-subcontracted electricians, who installed new LED lights prior to standing the poles. Each pole required a 100-tonne mobile crane for erection and all towers were installed whilst the terminal was fully operational during the day.

The challenge with this project was the weather, as this site has its own local weather patterns and was regularly affected by adverse winds. A wind strength exceeding 11 metres per second (equivalent to 31 km/hour) meant that no towers could be raised, in line with QMC’s Safety Management Plan. Despite this uncontrollable constraint, the project was completed to the client’s programme.
