QMC Group, an independent contractor specialising in civil infrastructure projects in Greater Sydney, announces today their continued commitment to build better together with Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander people.
QMC has a strong commitment to increasing employment opportunities and improving pathways for First Nations people through a range of job opportunities. The official Closing the Gap target is that 62 per cent of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander people aged 25 – 64 are employed by 2031.
Yesterday, our project team, subcontractors and some industry partners gathered at Wahanmuggalee to mark the start of a great partnership between QMC Group and National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE).
“Wahanmuggalee honours the presence and importance of Indigenous people in this part of Australia, both throughout history and today which is why it is a great place to celebrate.” said QMC Portfolio Leader Infrastructure, Jordan Commisso.
“It is an honour to present the $5,000 donation to NCIE on behalf of QMC. There are many similarities between QMC and NCIE which is why we believe this partnership is so special. Firstly, we have a shared value of achieving excellence – in all that we do and everything we deliver for the community. Secondly, we prioritise wellbeing of our people and understand its importance to achieving happiness, purpose, connection, and health. We look forward to continuing this partnership and to grow better together.” he continued.
To kick off this partnership, NCIE shared some of QMC’s employment opportunities at Yabun festival – Australia’s largest one-day celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. The partnership will continue as we together celebrate NADIOC week in July 2024.
Last year alone, QMC has had the opportunity to deliver a diverse range of meaningful civil construction projects that hold deep cultural significance for First Nations peoples, including:
- Wahanmuggalee Restoration Project at Royal Botanical Gardens;
- Waiwai Ngurra Inclusive Adventure Playspace at Nurringingy Reserve – Blacktown Council’s first all abilities playground for children of all ages; and
- Drummoyne’s Shared Spaces featuring Bundjalung artist David Cragg in Church Street.
