Wawai Ngurra Inclusive Adventure Playspace – Nurragingy Reserve

Scope of Work

This natural bushland reserve is more than 84 hectares in size and part of Western Sydney Parklands forming part of the Western Sydney green belt. QMC’s task was to sympathetically construct an accessible, safe children’s play and learning facility for all abilities and ages within the Western precinct of this recreation area.

The scope of works included earthworks, stormwater and subsoil drainage, supply and installation of a structural steel elevated walkway including foundations and more than 40 screw piles some 4m deep.

QMC Group formed and poured concrete ramps, landings, drop edges/beams and exposed aggregate pavements, as well as specialised soft-fall rubber surfaces. Great effect was achieved using cement stabilised decomposed granite to create bush-friendly access ways, retained by galvanised steel garden edging and adjacent to new native plants, trees and mulch.

Various play equipment along with Council supplied furniture positioned amongst the textural Sydney sandstone blocks, logs and boulders completes the client’s vision. The new play space was Blacktown City Council’s first fully inclusive play space with its main feature being an impressive 50m long elevated walkway central to the park. The play area features sensory panels, music and nature play elements, a trampoline, sand pits, slides, swings, and a suspended hammock. The park has many breakout zones and picnic areas set amongst the extensive landscaping completed by QMC Group.
